A ligament rupture to Sam Kerr's foot will end her W-League season but keep alive her chances of helping the Matildas win through to next year's Olympics.
The Perth Glory captain suffered the injury in the first half of her side's 2-0 win over Brisbane Roar on Saturday.
She is likely to miss three months of football, making her a touch-and-go proposition for the Matildas' qualification tournament in March for the Rio Games.
The foot issue comes after Kerr missed Perth Glory's W-League finals campaign due to knee surgery.
"To say that I'm bitterly disappointed is an understatement," she said.
"I'm thankful however, that it's happened now and I have every chance to recover in time for the Rio Olympic qualifiers."
The 22-year-old forward is a key part of Alen Stajcic's national team, having started all five matches Australia played in the Women's World Cup last June.
