Stars rise to occasion for Glory

Perth Glory's international signings combined to provide their first win of the A-League season on Sunday over Adelaide United and coach Kenny Lowe only expects it to continue.

Hungarian Gyorgy Sandor was the first of the new Glory signings to arrive early in pre-season and scored in his first two A-League appearances as well as Wednesday's FFA Cup semi-final win over Melbourne City.

Spaniard Diego Castro and Dutchman Diego Fernandez arrived not long prior to the start of the season and struggled in their opening three appearances.

Having already played twice in the past week, Lowe started Brazilian Sidnei Sciola against Adelaide at nib Stadium and with captain Richard Garcia returning he shifted Castro and Fernandez to the bench.

It worked a treat in the 3-1 win with Sandor setting up Sciola for the lone first half goal, before Fernandez and Castro came on in the second half to score impressive goals on the back of crosses from their captain.

Lowe never doubted his international signings could deliver despite the slow starts to the season of Fernandez and Castro.

"They're good players and you just saw some of the touches of Castro again out there, it's sublime," he said.

"And you can see that Guyon is getting a little fitter and more lively. He's even starting to chase his own flick ons.

"There's a lot left in the team as well. We're all fairly new to each other and there's a lot of work to be done, but I think there's a lot of potential left in the team."

Adelaide coach Guillermo Amor felt the Glory sitting back defensively to play a counter-attacking style of game limited his team's ability to create chances despite their dominance of possession.

"We didn't play like we normally play and the people who paid to come and watch the game might have got bored as well," Amor said.

"Normally the team that has more ball is the one that has more chances as well and in this game there was only one team that gave some life on the game, which was us for the good things and the bad things as well."
