Perth Glory have won yet another penalty shootout to move into the FFA Cup semi-finals to face Melbourne City.
Perth faced a Western Sydney Wanderers outfit that was keen to bounce back from a disappointing season and begin the 2015/2016 season on a high.
Former Wanderers player, Anthony Golec had a standout performance for the Glory. His performance was highlighted by coming close to netting a stunning extra-time winner.
The match was an end-to-end affair with the Glory looking threatening on the counter attack.
The Wanderers took the lead in the 41st minute through Dimas Delgado. The Spanish midfielder was teed up for the opener by former Glory man, Mitch Nichols.
The boys from Sydney continued their relentless pressure on the Glory goal in the second half with Ante Covic pulling off an incredible double save in the 57th minute to boost the Perth squad.
Almost directly after this, Perth equalised through Marinkovic slotting the ball through a crowd of players from the edge of the penalty area. However, the goal almost didn’t stand after originally being called offside, before the decision was overruled.
It appeared the longer the game went, the better the Glory team played. Perth dominated the remainder of the game and extra-time but were unable to find a winner.
The game came down to penalties with Western Sydney faltering twice with Perth running out 4-2 winners in the shootout.
