Perth Glory slumped to defeat against Western Sydney Wanderers on Saturday evening at nib Stadium.
Glory were facing a significantly weakened Wanderers side, which included a goalkeeper making his A-League debut, as Tony Popovic kept a firm eye on the upcoming AFC Champions League match with Ulsan Hyundai.
Despite early positivity from Sidnei and Marinkovic, Glory quickly fell behind after Mateo Poljak was given too much room at the edge of the penalty area.
Perth dominated possession, as they have in recent weeks, but Shane Smeltz was isolated up front, cut off from any support due to the lack of cutting edge in the midfield passing.
Then, with around 20 minutes remaining, marquee defender William Gallas came to meet a ball played to the edge of his penalty area, but allowed it to slip under his foot.
As he looked to make amends, the former French international failed to make a clearance, instead miskicking the ball in his panic, allowing the Wanderers’ Tommy Juric the simplest of finishes past Vukovic.
Perth were only really roused from their slumber in the final few minutes. By then however, it was too late.
