Perth Glory slumped to a 2-1 defeat against Sydney FC in the Saturday evening clash at Allianz Stadium.
The result leaves Glory just three points from bottom in the A-League table.
The truncated nature of the A-League this season means that Glory are still only four points off sixth, the position Sydney now occupy after this win.
A resurgent Melbourne Heart have closed the gap on Perth, now in ninth place, to just three points.
Kenny Lowe had clearly sent his troops out with a plan to target Sydney’s key man, Alessandro Del Piero.
Del Piero ended the match as the most fouled player, with a total of nine infringements noted against the Italian.
But the Italian set up the opener for Ranko Despotovic with a beautifully weighted through ball.
